Culture shock might be called an occupational disease of people who have been suddenly transplanted abroad. It is caused by the anxiety that results from losing all our familiar signs and symbols of social intercourse. Some of the symptoms of culture shock are: excessive washing of the hands; fear of physical contact with attendants. Culture shock has many stages. Each stage can be ongoing or appear only at certain times. Reverse culture shock can be difficult. There is a risk of sickness or emotional problems in many of the phases of culture shock. Remember to be kind to yourself all the time that you are overseas, and when you get home, give yourself time to adjust. Be your own best friend. Dont forget the good things you already have! Remember, there are always resources that you can use.Learn to include a regular form of physical activity in your routine. Relaxation and meditation are proven to be very positive for people who are passing through periods of stress. Lastly, if you feel stressed, learn to look for help.
