Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
很明显这个题目考的是环境保护，属于同意不同意类型的题目。意思是个人对改善环境无能为力，只有政府和大公司才能发挥作用，你在多大程度上同意或不同意这个观点？
我们可以用经典的四段结构来写这个作文，我这里给大家提供一些思路，希望能起到抛砖引玉的作用。第一段也是开头段，介绍一下背景，改写题目，然后引出自己的观点。比如可以这样写：
The problem of environmental degradation and climate change is becoming more serious currently, which is under debate on how to tackle it by governments and companies.
目前，环境恶化和气候变化的问题日益严重，政府和企业正在就如何解决这一问题展开辩论。
One of the contentions is whether it is the responsibility of individuals or governments and large companies to deal with environmental problems.
其中一个争论是个人或政府以及大公司是否有责任处理环境问题。
In my opinion, governments and big companies play a key role in solving this problem, individuals can support.
在我看来，政府和大公司在解决这个问题上发挥着关键作用，个人可以支持。
第二段可以写个人对改善环境的作用很小，但是不是无能为力，而且每个人都贡献自己那份小小的力量，那么对改善环境还是有作用的。比如：
Individuals are major causers for environmental problems, such as carbon dioxide emission, littering, deforestation etc.
个人是造成环境问题的主要原因，如二氧化碳排放、乱扔垃圾、森林砍伐等。
Therefore, we as individuals can improve a lot to protect the environment. If we all took responsibility for our own waste disposal and energy use, many of the environmental problems we face today would diminish accordingly.
因此，我们作为个体可以提高很多，以保护环境。如果我们都为自己的废物处理和能源使用负责，我们今天面临的许多环境问题将相应地减少。
Obviously, individuals are not powerless to stop the damage currently being done to the environment. For example, individuals can take public transport, choose products with less packaging and recycle as much as possible.
显然，个人并不是无力阻止目前对环境造成的破坏。例如，个人可以乘坐公共交通工具，选择包装较少的产品，并尽可能多地回收利用。
In this way, less resource is consumed and less waste is produced.
这样的话，消耗的资源更少，产生的废物也更少。
第三段，可以肯定公司和政府对改善环境起着很大的作用，但是要共同努力，团结协作，制定合理的政策和法律，相关部门和公司还要起到监督指导的作用，定期考察既定目标。
Although, there are many things individuals can do to improve the environment. However, without effective government policies and responsible practices from large companies, there is little hope for the progress of the improvement.
尽管如此，个人可以做很多事情来改善环境。然而，如果没有有效的政府政策和大公司负责任的做法，改进的进展就没有太大的希望了。
The reason is governments and big companies have the most powerful weapon to ensure the environment is clean and safe. For instance, governments can make policy, provide incentives among citizens for good environmental practices, as well as giving punishments for errant behaviors.
原因是政府和大公司拥有最有力的武器来确保环境的清洁和安全。例如，政府可以制定政策，在公民中为良好的环境实践提供激励，以及对不正当行为进行惩罚。
Big companies should act responsibly and support the government in accordance with the policy from the government.
大公司要按照政府的政策，负责任，支持政府。
最后一段结尾，总结一下自己的观点，政府和公司对改善环境起着关键作用，但是个人并非对环境改善无能为力，合理的政策和法律可以帮助每个人去尽自己的那份力量。
In conclusion, I believe that individuals are not powerless on environmental protection. However, it is ultimately up to the most powerful interest groups in society to do something about it. Government have the obligation to encourage and supervise them to take practical actions.
总之，我认为个人在环境保护方面并非无能为力。然而，这最终取决于社会上最强大的利益集团对此做些什么。政府有义务鼓励和监督他们采取实际行动。
